  Are you related to anyone famous?

  i thought this might be a fun "fluff" thread.

  someone posted the other day that marc anthony (the singer) is their cousin.

  i have done extensive genealogy research so i know a few famous relatives.

  On my father's side, our family ancestry was researched when I was a young adult...by my aunt.....who reported that we are descendants of Richard, the lion-hearted....King of England....so I've been thinking lately that if I can't live forever in paradise on earth with a buncha anal-retentive scaredy cats, I'm gonna go over to England soon and depose the present-day royal hineys and claim my family heraldry and be the Queen of England....

  On my mother's side, my g/g/mom was from Tennessee....I don't know much, if anything about our family ancestry on this side, except we're of Irish, English and Scots descent and my g/g/dad changed his name from O'Neill, dropping the "O".....my mom and her sisters had every color of hair it is humanly possible to grow, except dark brown and black.....I've noticed that we have a LOT of short women from this side of the family....and facial features resembling Dolly Parton's fam....so maybe back in Tennessee somewhere along the line, our fam and Dolly's fam made a "connection"....can't say for sure....just know NONE of us got her bazoomers...

  The Greek Islands are my favorite destination -- can not totally explain why -- combination of history -- clean swimming water, food - mediterranean diet, sun, culture -- going on an island hopping boat and scuba/snorkelling off the boat is great fun as is travelling around old ruins -- but I love all travel -- so many places in the US/Canada to visit also -- London is brilliant -- never get bored of going there -- I could go on and on

  Yer KIDDing, Stilla!!! I loved it on Cyprus....but I will never go out in a small boat...namely a kayak....in the Mediterranean again....we were almost dashed against some rocks sticking up out of the water and hadta paddle like some beaches to get away from 'em and back ashore...(WHEW!!!)...but, like you said, I enjoyed the clean swimming, food, sun and culture...we even saw some of the old secret meeting places of early christians....they were sheep pens...actually large "box-shaped" holes dug out of the lava beds in Kyrenia with dug-out entrance "ramps" at each end which could be easily guarded....there were altars carved out of the walls of the box-like structures....and they could not be spotted from a distance, since they were "flush" with the land....you could only see them when you came right up to them.....

  Plmkrzy, I quit being a slave to fashion when Cybil Shepherd marched onstage at the Academy Awards, wearing VERY comfy athletic shoes with an orange gown...I hate today's fashions....those designers can take their ugly colors, clone-y tailored, no-style-at-all fashions and needle-nosed-pointy shoes and shtick 'em where the sun don't shine....

  Why did it take so long to work it out?

  assuming you were brought up as a witness or converted for at least a few years , why do you think it takes so long to work out its not true?.

  I just love your 'gnu-whirled' whatevers - it conjures up visions of gnus getting all whirled up in a giant blender - gnu stew, gnu glue etc etc. cheeses - gnu-less

  so...as fast company magazine used to ask - what are you working on?.

  i have a screenplay i work on occasionally (a romantic comedy) and a nonfiction book about the area in which i grew up.. i also have a wedding in a year, and we are looking for a house to buy.. so what are y'all working on?.
